The Movie Partnership will be releasing Screened Out (cert PG) on digital download from 1st June. This eye opening feature length documentary about screen time shares groundbreaking insights and studies from eleven world class experts.
Filmmaker Jon Hyatt and his family set out on a journey through the life changing effects of screen addiction, how the tech industry hooked global consumers, and its greater impact on our lives. From smartphones, portable tablets and social media, the tech industry has designed fun immersive technologies that have changed the way we communicate and interact with each other but are these devices good for us? Are we too dependent? What keeps us hooked and how is it impacting our children and the world as a whole?
Lockdown has seen a nationwide surge in social media use as people struggle to stay connected. In a recent interview with CNN, Hyatt said, "This is a time when we're all celebrating bad behaviours." He continued, "What we found out after talking to the experts here (US) and in South Korea is that these social media and gaming companies have made us addicted by design. The more we use them the more addicted we get. At a time like this when we're all stuck in our homes, we're all sitting ducks for tech companies."
