REVIEW: Stilt (2024 VR Game) – On MetaQuest

"Stilt" is a fresh and inventive VR platformer that introduces a playful and intuitive stilt-based movement mechanic, putting players in control of a bouncing furball on a mission to recover lost cargo. The game's whimsical premise, colourful visuals, and homage to classic platformers make it a standout title for VR enthusiasts. Levels are creatively designed, blending exploration, puzzles, and reflex challenges, while the array of power-ups and hidden collectables add depth and replayability. The multiplayer modes, with cross-play functionality, deliver chaotic and light-hearted competition, ensuring the game remains engaging even beyond the single-player adventure.

Despite its charm, the game has a few drawbacks. The visual design, though vibrant, can feel repetitive over extended play, and the lack of a strong emotional connection to the character or stakes detracts slightly from the experience. Some of the boss fights are also particularly challenging, potentially disrupting the otherwise smooth progression. Nevertheless, Stilt's polished mechanics, inventive design, and sense of humour make it a delightful addition to the VR platformer genre, offering a blend of nostalgia and novelty for players seeking a fresh experience.
