REVIEW: Nutcrackers (2024 Film) - Starring Ben Stiller

Nutcrackers is a heartwarming holiday film that, while predictable, delivers a solid dose of entertainment. Directed by David Gordon Green and starring Ben Stiller, the film follows Mike Maxwell, who is tasked with looking after his unruly nephews in rural Ohio after the sudden death of their parents. As Mike navigates his business dealings and the challenge of finding a foster home for the children, he bonds with them over a community theatre performance of The Nutcracker. The film's strength lies in its solid performances, particularly from Stiller, and its ability to evoke genuine warmth through its comedic moments and emotional core.

Despite relying heavily on familiar holiday film tropes, Nutcrackers succeeds in offering a feel-good, if slightly saccharine, story. The kids, played by the Janson brothers, bring energy and charm to their roles, while the script manages to blend humour with sincerity. Though the plot is predictable and doesn't take risks, the film's simplicity is its charm. It may not stand out as a groundbreaking entry in the holiday genre, but Nutcrackers offers an enjoyable, family-friendly experience that leaves viewers with a smile and a sense of warmth.
