REVIEW: Flight Risk (2025 Film) - Starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace

Flight Risk is a fast-paced action thriller that delivers exactly what it promises. Directed by Mel Gibson, the film takes place almost entirely aboard a small plane flying over the Alaskan wilderness, creating a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere. Mark Wahlberg gives a strong performance as the ruthless hitman disguised as a pilot, while Michelle Dockery brings depth to her role as the determined U.S. Marshal trying to keep her informant alive. Topher Grace adds a mix of desperation and intelligence to Winston, making him more than just a helpless target. The film wastes no time getting into the action, keeping the tension high with mid-air fights, betrayals, and last-minute escapes. The pacing is tight, and at under 90 minutes, it never overstays its welcome.

While the film is undeniably entertaining, it does not come without flaws. The plot is filled with absurd moments and questionable decisions, but that is part of its charm. It leans into the fun of the genre rather than trying to be overly serious. Some characters, particularly the villains outside the plane, feel underdeveloped, and certain twists are predictable. However, the strong action sequences and solid performances make up for these weaknesses. Flight Risk is not a film that tries to reinvent the genre, but for those looking for an engaging, fast-moving thriller that does not take itself too seriously, it delivers exactly what it sets out to do.
