The rumor of sharks quickly spreads, unsettling the town, but Rosina remains unphased, instead focusing on her enigmatic coworker, Joselo, who she becomes increasingly attracted to and begins circling, much like the mysterious predators lurking just under the surface.
Directorial debut from Lucía Garibaldi, THE SHARKS world premiered at Sundance, where Garibaldi took home the prestigious Directing Award in World Cinema – Dramatic; additional screenings at San Sebastian International Film Festival, Guadalajara Film Festival winning the Special Jury Award, and Buenos Ares Film Festival where the film won the Special Jury Award and the FEISAL Award.
Film Inquiry's Kristy Strouse praised the film, calling the film "worth the search, with another young female force in Bentancur, and a beautiful debut by Garibaldi; this slow-moving feature leaves an impression", while David Rooney at he Hollywood Reporter complimented Garibaldi's ability to strip "conventional plotting down to the bone, a process mirrored by her skilled use of the wide-open physical spaces exposing her young protagonist's intensely private world."
